Being queer in Nigeria isn’t easy. Whether it’s finding a safe space, mental health support, or legal aid, you shouldn’t have to figure it all out on your own.
So in celebration of Pride, we’ve put together a quick guide on where to get help as a queer person in Nigeria.
Obodo
Obodo is a nonprofit creating safe, affirming spaces for queer Nigerians. They offer community building events, access to basic needs, and peer support.

Crowdr
Crowdr is an online Nigerian crowdfunding platform that allows you to securely fundraise for yourself or your chosen family. You can campaign for anything from housing to HRT to education.
Bisi Alimi Foundation
Bisi Alimi Foundation advocates for queer rights in Nigeria through research, media, and legal engagement. Their Rainbow Academy program educates queer people on how to safely challenge homophobia by understanding the law and developing critical personal skills.
Content Creators
Content creators and platforms like Zikoko Magazine, The Afro Queer Podcast, Openly News, Amara Ogara FKA ‘Amara the Lesbian’, Matthew Blaise and Vincent Desmond can offer inspiration and education, helping you feel less alone as a queer person online.
